"Step Back in Time"
I recently visited the pub and it is one of the most authentic pubs that I have been in. It feels like i am stepping back into the 18th century. Well worth popping around the corner from Athlone Castle. It is also near Sean's Bar which is a very old pub. Hope you really enjoy a piece of Irish history. Enjoy!
"Great Pint Of Stout"
Stopped here for a couple drinks while waiting on a boat trip. Barmaid Ashley was very welcoming and chatty. Got talking to the owner who gave us great ideas of places to visit while in town. Definitely worth a visit, lovely pubs around it too .most importantly a great pint of stout
"A Must Visit"
We spent a lovely evening in this relaxing pub. Fay was bartender looking after us and she was so welcoming. Cocktails were delish, we got an espresso martini and a kiwi one. 10/10 A must visit if your in Athlone!!!
Going back as far as 1620 when The Snug was built and known as "The Mansion House". Housing the family of Richard St George who was the Governor of Athlone town and the castle at the time.
The Snug has survived the Great Famine, two World Wars and a Civil War. The pub was used for many local "private" meetings to help organise the foundation of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in 1884.
How did "The Snug" get its name.......
